FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. -- Covenant women's basketball sophomore Joanna Smith was named to the USA South All-West Division second team and senior Alex Quimby was the Scots' representative on the All-Sportsmanship team as the conference announced its postseason honors on Thursday.
The honor for Smith marks the second straight year she has earned an All-Conference accolade after being named the league's Rookie of the Year last season while being voted to the honorable mention team.
Ferrum's Zarkia Mattox was voted the league's Player of the Year, while Garis Grant of Agnes Scott was the Rookie of the Year. Coach of the Year honors went to Ferrum's Bryan Harvey as the Panthers claimed the East Division title.
Smith, a sophomore from Chattanooga, Tenn., is leading the team in scoring at 12.5 points per game and also grabbing a team-best 7.2 rebounds per contest. Smith is also averaging 2.2 assists per game and shooting 52.7 percent from the field. The sophomore has produced six double-doubles on the year and scored in double figures in 10 of the last 11 games, and 18 games overall for the season. Smith produced a season-high 21 points in a come-from-behind victory at Sewanee on Jan. 3.
Quimby, a senior from Denver, Colo., has played in 23 games and made six starts for the Scots on the year. She scored 13 points, including going 9-for-11 at the free throw line, in Covenant's 86-83 win at Salem on Saturday to conclude the regular season.
All awards are voted on by the women's basketball coach at each institution. The divisional team voting is completed only by those coaches in the particular division. The first team All-Conference and individual award voting is completed by all coaches.
Covenant (12-12) enters the USA South Tournament as the No. 5 seed from the West and will face LaGrange in the first round on Friday at 7 p.m. in Maryville, Tenn.
