LaGRANGE, Ga. -- The Covenant women's basketball team played its third straight road contest on Wednesday night at LaGrange. Despite an eighth straight double-double from senior Jessie Blankenship, the Scots fell to the host Panthers 62-50 in USA South action.
The loss is the sixth straight for Covenant as they fall to 4-12 overall and 1-7 in league play. LaGrange picks up its fifth straight victory and improve to 10-6 on the year and 4-3 in USA South contests.
Blankenship led Covenant with 15 points and 11 rebounds to go along with two assists and three steals. Alexis Storteboom added 13 points and five rebounds, while Aleigha Williams also posted double digits with 11 points.
Covenant struggled shooting from the field as they connected on 34 percent (17-of-50) for the game. The Scots were 12-of-20 from the free throw line.
Both teams had their share of difficulty scoring in the first half. Covenant held a 13-5 lead in the opening period after Williams drained a 3-pointer to give the Scots a 13-5 lead with 8:24 left in the half. LaGrange came back to take a 19-18 lead late in the half, but a 3-pointer from Haley Soles gave the Scots a 21-19 advantage heading into halftime.
In the second half, LaGrange went on a 12-0 scoring run over the span of four-and-a-half minutes to seize a 41-31 lead. The Panthers would hold a comfortable margin for most of the rest of the contest.
LaGrange was led in scoring by Kelsey Mitchell's 17 points and nine rebounds. Alex Wilson scored 14 points off the bench while Shaye Butler had a team-high 10 rebounds in the victory.
Covenant will continue its road trip this weekend to Virginia and North Carolina. The Scots face Mary Baldwin on Friday and Meredith on Saturday.
