Head Women's Basketball Coach Corey Mullins has added Elizabeth Bell to the 2012-2013 roster. Bell is a 5’7 forward from Praise Academy in Powder Springs, Ga.

The NCCAA announced its Mid-East Women's Basketball All-Region team recently and Covenant sophomore forward Jessie Blankenship was named to the first team for her outstanding performance and leadership during the 2011-12 season.

Lady Scots' Season Ends With Loss
The 2011-12 basketball season came to an end for the Covenant Lady Scots on Thursday night with a 70-55 loss to Tenneessee Temple in the quarterfinal round of the NCCAA Mid-East Regional Tournament.

NCCAA Basketball Region Tournaments Set
Postseason basketball is upon us as both Covenant teams will be competing in their respective NCCAA Mid-East Region Tournaments later this week. The men’s tournament is being hosted by Hiwassee College in Madisonville, Tenn., Thursday-Saturday, while the women’s tournament is also being held the same days at Tennessee Temple in Chattanooga.

Lady Scots Beat Salem from Downtown
The Lady Scots basketball team finished out the regular season with a rescheduled game against the Salem College Spirits on Saturday afternoon. Margaret Cross and Terah Hooper combined to bury 10 3-pointers to help give Covenant a 65-47 win over the Spirits.

Sears and Woodward Lead Covenant Basketball Teams in GSAC Honors
The Great South Athletic Conference announced its men’s and women’s basketball All-Conference awards on Thursday afternoon. Junior Callum Sears was recognized as an All-Conference player as well as an All-Academic performer on the men’s side, while Morgan Woodward took All-Freshman and Sportsmanship honors on the women’s side.

Berry Pulls Away From Lady Scots in 2nd Half
The Lady Scots hit the road on Tuesday night to face Berry College in a rematch of the opening game of the year that was won by Berry. Although the Lady Scots hung with the Lady Vikings, Covenant was unable to come up with the win as Berry pulled out a 74-60 victory.

Covenant Athletic Weekly Recap: Week 22 (Feb. 13-18)
The weeks seem to be flying by as men’s baseball has started out strong and women’s softball will be starting shortly. The women’s basketball team played two very good GSAC teams and their record now moves to 5-18 overall and 4-11 in the GSAC. The men’s basketball team has only one more regular game this season and is 7-17 overall and 2-6.

Behind a great defensive effort, the Agnes Scott Scotties came away with a 55-31 win over Covenant Saturday afternoon in GSAC action. With the win, Agnes Scott moves to 8-15 overall and 7-9 in conference play, while the Lady Scots fall to 5-18 and 4-11 in GSAC games.

Wednesday night Covenant's women’s basketball team faced Great South foe Piedmont College in a rough game that ended in a loss 86-43. Behind Sada Wheeler's near triple-double, Piedmont (20-4, 12-3 GSAC) took control of the game from the start. Covenant drops to 5-17 overall and 4-10 in the GSAC.

Covenant Athletic Weekly Recap: Week 21 (Feb. 6-11)
This past week held the final home game for the Scots basketball teams as well as the season opener for baseball. Senior nights for both basketball teams had fans saying goodbye and good luck to players who will be graduating in the spring. After the week, the Lady Scots basketball team’s record stands at 5-16 overall and 4-9 in conference while the men’s team is 7-16 and 2-5 in the GSAC.

Wesleyan Rallies in 2nd Half to Beat Lady Scots
Lindsay Haggerty scored 29 points to lead the Wesleyan Pioneers to a 54-42 win over the Covenant Lady Scots on Saturday afternoon in Macon, Ga. The Lady Scots won the previous meeting of the two teams 42-38 back in January. Covenant falls to 5-16 overall and 4-9 in conference play. Wesleyan improves to 7-11 and 5-10 in league play.

The Covenant women’s basketball program said goodbye to four graduating seniors on Wednesday night. But the visiting Huntingdon College spoiled Senior Night as the Lady Hawks took an 80-64 win over Covenant.

Covenant basketball teams had a busy Wednesday and Saturday as they took on Maryville College and LaGrange College. The Lady Scots record stands at 5-14 and 4-7 after the week. The men’s team improved to 6-15 and 2-4 in the GSAC after splitting its two games this week.

Lady Scots Defeated on the Road
Covenant went on the road on Saturday afternoon to take on the LaGrange College Lady Panthers. LaGrange (14-6, 10-2 GSAC) beat the Lady Scots 97-81 earlier this season and on Saturday LaGrange beat Covenant soundly 72-45. Covenant now stands at 5-14 and 4-7 in the GSAC.

The Maryville College Lady Scots rolled into a foggy Lookout Mountain on Wednesday night and pulled out a 66-42 win over the host Covenant Lady Scots. The loss for Covenant drops them to 5-13 overall and 4-6 in Great South play. Maryville, meanwhile, improves to 11-6 and 7-1 in conference play.

This week held exciting games for the men’s and women’s basketball teams. On Wednesday, Covenant had a double header versus Piedmont College. On Friday, the men lost a nail biter against Rust College. The Scots’ record goes to 5-14 and 1-3 in the conference. The Lady Scots move to 5-12 and 4-5 in conference play.

In a back and forth game with 48 total turnovers, Piedmont College came out on top 63-44 against the Lady Scots basketball team on Wednesday night. Piedmont College is now 14-3 overall and 6-2 in the GSAC, while Covenant drops to 5-12 and 4-5 in the conference.

Coming off back-to-back double-doubles, sophomore forward Jessie Blankenship has been named Covenant’s Player of the Week for Jan. 16 - Jan. 21. This marks the third time this year that Blankenship has received this honor.

The Lady Scots traveled to take on the Huntingdon College Lady Hawks (10-6, 5-2 GSAC) on Saturday afternoon. After coming off their first win in the last few games, the Lady Scots (5-11, 4-4 GSAC) came prepared to play their conference foe. Though Covenant led at halftime, the final score ended in Huntingdon’s favor, 72-63.

Wednesday night, the Lady Scots basketball team ended their string of losses as they defeated conference foe Spelman College 60-55. Covenant now moves to 5-10 and 4-3 in the GSAC while Spelman drops to 2-9 and 1-6 in conference play.

Last week was the first week back to school for students at Covenant. The men’s and women’s basketball teams also had three games each during that busy week. Wednesday night, the women’s basketball team traveled to compete against a 6-5 Maryville College team, who is now 2-0 in the GSAC. Covenant hoped to improve their own record, but now stand at 4-9 and 3-2 in GSAC play after Maryville controlled the whole game and won by a final score of 70-43.

Sewanee Pulls Away From Lady Scots In Second Half
The Covenant Lady Scots played on Monday night against the University of the South (8-5) in a rematch of a game last week that did not go so well for Covenant (4-8). This time, the Lady Scots started the game off strong as the contest went back and forth in the first half. Sewanee capitalized on some great plays in the second half to pull away from the Lady Scots and win by a final score of 69-44.

Margaret Cross scored a season-high 22 points and Jessica Chittenden recorded her first career double-double with 11 points and 10 rebounds as Covenant defeated Pensacola Christian 60-48 on Friday night.

The new year was unkind to the Covenant Lady Scots as they fell in their first game of 2012 to the Sewanee Lady Tigers 66-26 on Wednesday night. The loss drops the Lady Scots to 2-7 on the season, while Sewanee improves to 7-4.

This week in athletics, the men’s and women’s basketball teams started off by traveling to Oglethorpe University for a double header. On Saturday, the men stayed home to play North Carolina Wesleyan College while the women hit the road again for Pensacola Christian College. The Lady Scots record is now 2-5 overall and 2-1 in the Great South. The men’s team is now 4-4 for the season.

Pensacola Pulls Away From Lady Scots in Final Minutes, Wins 54-50
A very close game on Saturday night against Pensacola Christian College left the Lady Scots basketball team in a position to claim their third win of the season. But Pensacola Christian College knocked down two 3-pointers in the final two minutes to secure their first victory of the season, 54-50. Pensacola Christian’s record is now 1-11, while the Lady Scots drop to 2-5.

The Covenant women’s basketball team played Oglethorpe University on Wednesday evening and came away with a 60-39 loss. Oglethorpe’s record improves to 3-5 as they were able to pull away from the Lady Scots late in the first half. Covenant’s record now drops to 2-4 for the season.

On Tuesday night, the Lady Scots basketball team fell at home to the Agnes Scott College Lady Scotties in a close game that was tied going into half-time. Agnes Scott used several late free throws to pull away toward the end of the second half and win 44-38. Covenant’s record is now 1-3 overall and 1-1 in the GSAC. Agnes Scott improves to 2-3 (1-0 GSAC).

Covenant Athletic Weekly Recap: Week 12 (Nov. 14-19)
This week at Covenant marked the official start to the winter season of basketball, and to kick it off, hundreds of students came out for the “Royal Blue-Out” at the men’s and women’s first game. Meanwhile, men’s and women’s soccer, as well as volleyball, all competed in their NCCAA Mid-East Region Tournament but were unable to advance into the national tournament stage.

Emory Eagles Soar Past Lady Scots
The Covenant Lady Scots basketball team fell at home to the Emory University Lady Eagles by a score of 87-43 Monday evening in Barnes Physical Education Center. Despite hanging close through the first several minutes of action, Covenant saw its three-point lead at the 13:25 mark disappear for good. Emory would take the lead and never look back, eventually going on a 24-4 run to end the first half. Covenant drops to 1-2 this season while Emory improves to 1-1.

Lady Scots Defeat Great South Foe Spelman College
Saturday afternoon, the Covenant women’s basketball team faced off against the Spelman Lady Jaguars in an early season conference matchup. The game was intense, with 51 total fouls accumulated in the 40 minutes of action, but the Lady Scots took full advantage, going 31-for-44 (71%) from the free throw line to secure a 74-69 victory and improve to 1-1 this season. Spelman College is now 0-1 for the year.

Lady Scots Lose Regular Season Opener Against Berry
The Lady Scots basketball team played the opening game of the 2011-12 season against Berry College in the “Royal Blue-Out” Tuesday night. After dominating the first half and taking a big halftime lead, Berry didn’t give it up and ended up winning 76-60. Covenant drops to 0-1 this season, while Berry improves to 1-0. Berry came out strong and built a 41-23 lead by the end of the first half. With only 7 minutes remaining in the first half, Covenant trailed by only one point 19-18, but Berry settled into a rhythm and went on a 22-5 run to close out the half.

Both the Lady Scots and Scots basketball teams will open their third season as a provisional member of NCAA D3 this Tuesday night, November 15 at home against Berry College. Women’s game tips off at 6 p.m. and the men take the floor at 8 p.m.

Covenant Athletic Weekly Recap: Week 10 (Oct. 31 – Nov. 5)
Week 10 was full of senior nights as the Covenant volleyball and men’s and women’s soccer teams had their final regular season matches at home. On Tuesday night, the Lady Scots volleyball team closed out its 2011 home campaign with a great match against Tennessee Wesleyan College. The following evening, the women’s basketball team had their first official exhibition game against a club team from the Dominican Republic. Men’s and women’s soccer then finished off the week by playing Berry College in their senior nights.

Dominican Club Team Defeats Lady Scots in Exhibition Opener
The Covenant women’s basketball team hosted a club team from the Dominican Republic Wednesday night in an exhibition opener to kick off its 2011-2012 campaign. The Dominican’s Teresa Duran and Charlennys Frias scored 21 and 15, respectively, to help come away with a 74-46 victory over the Lady Scots.
