Track and Field Has Strong Showing at Berry Field Day Invitational

ROME, Ga. -- After a week away from competition, the Covenant track and field teams produced their strongest showing of the year at the Berry Field Day Invitational over the weekend at Valhalla Stadium in Rome.

The men posted a season-best 13.50 points for a 10th place finish, while the women were 17th overall in the event.

On the men's side, Covenant received outstanding efforts in sprint events. All four participants in the 100 meter dash, Kyle Delk, Ari Zorns, Berto Dryden and Stefon Bright set personal records with Delk leading the way at 11.49. In the 200 meter, William Bryan finished 10th overall with his personal record of 22.94. Delk also picked up points for Covenant in field events. He placed seventh in the long jump at 6.00 meters and cleared the bar at 1.82 meters in the high jump for a third place finish.

In the 800 meter run, Tristan Dunlavy set a personal best, and topped the team's season-best time, at 2:09.27. Phil Carrenard also posted a personal record time in the 800 at 2:10.87. In the 1500 event on Friday, Matthew Tueller led the way at 4:29.94, while Micah Sneller finished in 4:35.76 and Wesley Reddecliff in 4:36.18. Tueller also competed in his first 3000 meter steeplechase and scored for the Scots with his eighth place finish and time of 10:34.42.

The combination of Dunlavy, Bryan, John Owen and Ryan Seay posted a season-best time of 3:36.40 in the 4x400 relay. In the 4x100, Dryden, Delk, Mason Gregoire and Zorns also set a season-best mark at 44.01.

On the women's side, Hannah Hennigh paced the Scots with personal records in both the 100 meter and 200 meter events. Hennigh finished in 13.26 in the 100 meter to place 14th overall and then ran a 28.07 in the 200 meter. Caroline Cone also set a personal record in the 200 as she finished in 28.64, while Anna Porch just narrowly missed a PR in the same race at 29.16.

In the women's 800 meter, Lilly Smith posted the team's best time of the year with her personal record time of 2:36.23. Anna Danek put in a time of 2:38.48, while Hannah Samuels finished in 2:41.43. In the 1500 on Friday, Samuels led the way with a time of 5:27.32 and Michelann Settle finished in 5:32.03. 

Gracie Holbrook continued to set the pace in the 3000 meter steeplechase with a personal record time of 13:13.69. In the 4x400 relay, the team of Cone, Hanna Wilt, Hennigh and Porch set a team-best time on the year at 4:25.96 and placed sixth overall.

UP NEXT

Covenant will conclude the season at the Independent Track and Field Championships on Thursday, April 20 in Durham, N.C. The field of teams will consist of other USA South members and future members.
