Christine Engbers was named head coach in September of 2016. The 2018 season will be her second as head coach, but her sixth overall in the program.

Engbers, a 2012 Covenant graduate and a four-year softball player, took over the program after spending one as the program's full-time assistant and the previous three years as a part-time assistant coach.

"I am excited and blessed to the have the opportunity to coach at my alma mater," Engbers said at the time of her hiring. "Both Covenant College and the softball program are integral elements of my life and they helped shape me not only as an athlete and a student, but now as a coach. I'm excited to continue growing this program."

In her first year at the helm of the program, Engbers and the Lady Scots had one of the best seasons in program history. Covenant finished 22-17 overall, tying the program record for wins and setting a program mark with 21 regular season victories. The Lady Scots qualified for the USA South Tournament for the first time and placed two players on All-USA South West Division teams. Additionally, junior Shannon Schmitt became the first player in program history to earn CoSIDA Academic All-District.

Engbers' previous head coaching experience was with Dade County High School in Trenton, Ga. At Dade County, her squad won the Georgia High School Association Class AA state championship in 2012 and made another deep run into playoffs in both 2013 and 2014. Engbers was a finalist for the Chattanooga Times Free Press' annual Best of Preps Coach of the Year honors in June of 2013. She was named GACA Coach of the Year and Georgia Dugout Club Coach of the Year in 2012.

"We are blessed to have somebody of Christine's caliber already a part of the softball program," Director of Athletics, Tim Sceggel said. "As a result, I am thrilled that she is stepping into the role of head coach. Her experience as a player and assistant coach at Covenant, along with great success as a high school head coach, make her well suited for this role. In light of this, I look forward to seeing how her experience combined with her love for Christ will propel the program forward."

Engbers graduated from Covenant in 2012 with a bachelor's degree in English. She played four years, had a career .335 batting average and ranks fourth in program history with 162 hits and 45 multi-hit games. Engbers holds the program's record for career steals with 59, including the season record of 26 in 2012. She was a second team NCCAA All-American in 2010 after hitting .352 with 15 stolen bases which helped the Lady Scots reach the NCCAA National Tournament for the first time. Engbers also played three years of basketball at Covenant and played in 56 career games, making 42 starts.

She and her husband, Bryant (a former four-year basketball player at Covenant), live in Trenton, Ga.
