LAGRANGE, Ga. -- Backed by goals from three different players and a strong defensive effort, the Covenant men's soccer team picked up its fourth shutout of the year in a 3-0 win at LaGrange on Wednesday night in USA South action.

Covenant goes to 4-7-1 overall on the year and 2-3-1 in league play. LaGrange drops to 2-61 and 0-3-1.

The Scots had a healthy shot advantage in the contest (17-6) and put 11 shots on target. That work paid off in the 35th minute when a through ball from Matt Morefield found the feet of Isaac Johnson who put the ball into the net giving the Scots a 1-0 lead. The goal was Johnson's first of the year, while Morefield was credited with the assist. Covenant had six other shots on goal in the half, but would not be able to tack on another goal before the break.

In the second half, though, Covenant was able to extend its lead. Jonathan Barrett collected his second goal of the season as he put one away in the 57th minute, assisted by Josh Brower, to make it 2-0. Brower would also assist on a Jesse Riggs score in the 68th minute that gave Covenant a comfortable 3-0 edge. The goal for Riggs was his team-leading fourth of the season.

Defensively, the Scots were stout. LaGrange attempted just six shots in the match and Jonathan Crossman made three saves for his fourth shutout of the season. LaGrange keeper Cory Aycock made eight saves on the night.

Brower led the way with four shots attempted to go along with his two assists. Brower leads the team with four assists on the year. Four other Covenant players took two shots apiece.
