KNOXVILLE, Tenn. -- The Covenant men's soccer team could not hold a 1-0 lead in the second half as Wilmington rallied and scored the game-winner in the 101st minute to knock off the Scots 2-1 in the 2017 season opener at Sansom Sports Complex in Knoxville.

Covenant (0-1) took a 1-0 lead in the 14th minute when Anthony Buzzeo notched his first career goal, assisted by Jesse Riggs. Buzzeo worked the ball into the box and then got his shot past Wilmington keeper Chris Bourque to put the Scots ahead by a goal.

That lead would last until the 63rd minute. Wilmington, who outshot the Scots 17-6 on the afternoon, got the equalizer off the foot of Treshaun Pate with an assist to Benny Spirk.

The Scots would put two shots on goal in the final 27 minutes of the second period, but Bourque was there to make the save both times. Both teams were unable to find the mark in the first overtime session, but the Quakers found the golden goal in the first minute of the second when Willie Winald slotted his shot into the left corner of the net for the game-winner.

Jonathan Crossman made eight saves for the Scots in the loss. Wilmington (1-0) keeper Bourque tallied three saves. Ethan Pettit and Riggs had two shots apiece for Covenant.
