Wall Leads Golf at Chick-fil-A Invitational

ROME, Ga. -- Josh Wall paced the Covenant men's golf team at the Chick-fil-A Invitational, which wrapped up on Tuesday afternoon at Stonebridge Golf Club in Rome.

Covenant finished 12th in a field that included six teams ranked in the top 50 of GolfStat rankings. The Scots shot a 947 (316-312-319) in the 54-hole tournament.

Oglethorpe, ranked No. 23, took home the team title by edging North Carolina Wesleyan by eight strokes. Truett-McConnell, LaGrange and Birmingham Southern rounded out the top five teams in the tournament. Millsaps' Tanner Tabor and Oglethorpe's Jacob Arnett were co-medalists as each carded 5-under, 211s for the tournament. 

Wall was consistent for the Scots in the three-round event. After posting an 81 in the first round on Monday, Wall shot back-to-back 75s in the final two rounds to lead Covenant and finish in a tie for 37th overall with a three-round score of 231. Between the three rounds, Wall tallied six birdies, including four in the second round alone. The 231 was 26 strokes better than Wall's previous career best in a 54-hole tournament.

Nathan Hawkins finished tied for 45th in the event after shooting a 234 (76-79-79), while Marshall Kent was tied for 55th with a 238 (76-75-87). Will Mayfield posted a three-round score of 248 (83-83-82) and Matthew Harvie made his collegiate debut on the golf course with a 259 (84-92-83).


Covenant will finish the fall season next week at the Eagle Invitational, hosted by Alice Lloyd College, at Nob North Golf Course in Cohutta, Ga. First round action begins Monday, Oct. 30 with the final round taking place on Tuesday, Oct. 31.
