MONTGOMERY, Ala. -- The Covenant men's golf team opened its final regular season event of the year on Monday at the Wynlakes Intercollegiate, hosted by USA South member Huntingdon. The Scots shot a 329 in the first round and are in 13th heading into Tuesday's final round.
Host Huntingdon, and the current No. 1 ranked team in Division III, leads the event after carding a 280. Addison Lambeth of Huntingdon and Carnegie Mellon's George Qian each posted a 5-under, 67 to lead the field.
Nathan Hawkins led the way for Covenant with his opening round 77, just one stroke off his season best round. The freshman had three birdies in his round and sits in a tie for 37th overall in the event. Marshall Kent is tied for 45th after he shot a 78. Will Mayfield and Josh Wall rounded out the top four Covenant finishers on Monday with an 86 and an 88, respectively.
Covenant heads into Tuesday's second round with leads over Faulkner and Belhaven.
The final round of the tournament will begin on Tuesday morning. All five Covenant golfers in the event will tee off at 8 a.m. CDT (9 a.m. EDT). Live results can be found here
