LOOKOUT MOUNTAIN -- The Covenant baseball team slugged three home runs, one shy of tying the single-game program record, and took the rubber game of a three-game series with a 10-4 victory over LaGrange on Saturday afternoon on Lookout Mountain.

Caleb Bloye, Christian Murray, and Jonah Carignan all hit solo home runs for Covenant (4-6, 2-1 USA South) as the Scots took the series win over LaGrange (7-8, 1-2 USA South). The three homers were one shy of the single-game program record of four, accomplished three different times.

It was also the third straight game that Covenant recorded double-digit hits as the Scots produced a season-high 16 hits on the day. Five different Scots had multiple hits on the day, led by Joel Johnson's 3-for-4 effort with two runs and an RBI. Trenton Nobles, Caleb Bloye, CJ Edmond, and Daniel Johnson all had two hits apiece.

For a second straight game, Covenant scored first in the home half of the first inning. Edmond delivered a triple to left field that plated Joel Johnson all the way from first to give the Scots a 1-0 lead.

In the third, Caleb Bloye made it 2-0 when he hit a solo home run to center field. LaGrange center fielder James Poropatic attempted to make the catch against the fence and appeared to get a glove on the ball, but the ball popped loose and went over the fence for a home run. The homer was Bloye's second of the year.

LaGrange got on the board in the fifth, but Covenant answered as Murray led off the bottom of the inning with a solo homer to left field. The home run was Murray's first of the year. Later in the inning, Joel Johnson ripped an RBI triple to center field to score Nobles and give the Scots a 4-1 lead.

The visiting Panthers knotted the score at 4-4 in the sixth on a Poropatic three-run homer, however the Scots had the answer again in their half of the frame. Donny Lewis produced a pinch-hit RBI single to right field that scored Alex Gonzalez and gave Covenant a lead they would not relinquish.

A four-run seventh inning, highlighted by a Tyler Moore bases-loaded double that brought home three, gave the Scots a 9-4 cushion. Carignan put the exclamation point on the victory with a towering solo homer to left field in the eighth, his first of the year.

That lead would be plenty for the Scots bullpen to hold. Taylor Bloye (1-2) came on in the sixth inning and threw the final 3.2 innings to collect the win. He allowed one run on three hits with two strikeouts. Starter Tristen Green threw a season-high four innings and gave up just one run on three hits.

Colin Barrett (3-2) got the loss for LaGrange after surrendering four earned runs on 10 hits. Poropatic finished 2-for-4 with two runs and three RBIs for the Panthers.

Covenant will host Berry for a non-conference game on Tuesday. First pitch is set for 2 p.m.
