This story has been updated to include the ABCA All-Region selection
LOOKOUT MOUNTAIN -- Covenant baseball junior first baseman Caleb Bloye was voted to the D3baseball.com All-South Region third team and the American Baseball Coaches Association (ABCA) All-South Region second team, announced the organizations on Tuesday.
The D3baseball.com all-region nod is Bloye's first career selection and he becomes the second player in program history to earn postseason honors from D3baseball.com. It is the second straight year that a Covenant player has collected ABCA all-region honors.
A junior from Dallas, Ga., Bloye was an All-USA South first team choice after batting .353 with four home runs, 25 RBIs, 26 runs scored and 11 stolen bases. His .353 batting average ranked eighth in the USA South overall and was a career-high. Bloye also led the team in walks with 21, while compiling team-bests in slugging percentage (.568) and on-base percentage (.449). During the year, Bloye had a nine-game hitting streak and ended the season on a six-game streak.
Bloye also had a team-high 15 multi-hit games to go along with seven multi-RBI games. He hit a walk-off solo home run in a win over Berea on Feb. 17. Defensively, Bloye registered a .989 fielding percentage at first base with only four errors in 349 total chances.
Bloye was one of 12 players from the USA South selected to the D3baseball.com all-region teams. The 2017 season marks the sixth year that D3baseball.com has named All-Region teams, with 800 players nominated. The ballot was then made available to SIDs, who voted for a predetermined number of players in their region, as well as D3baseball.com staff and contributors.
The ABCA All-Region teams are voted on by members of the American Baseball Coaches Association and the process is led by the ABCA NCAA Div. III All-America Committee.
