This week's female Thrive Covenant Athlete of the Week, for the period ending Feb. 18, 2017, is junior softball catcher Shannon Schmitt.

Schmitt, a junior from Clermont, Fla., continued her torrid start to the season by going 3-for-6 in a doubleheader against nationally-ranked Birmingham Southern last Tuesday. The junior was 2-for-3 at the plate in game one and went 1-for-3 in the finale. Schmitt is currently hitting .611 on the year with six runs scored and two steals.

Week 1 (Aug. 29-Sept. 3, 2016)

Lilly Smith - Cross Country

Smith, a sophomore from Weaverville, N.C., set a personal best time in the two-mile at 13:33 and finished second overall to lead Covenant at the Mountaintop Invitational. Smith's time and place helped Covenant to a second place team finish.

Week 2 (Sept. 5-10, 2016)

Savanna Cingilli - Soccer

Cingilli, a senior from Chattanooga, Tenn., played a key role in Covenant's 3-2 win over Sewanee with two second half goals. She scored in the 48th minute to tie the match at 1-1 before giving Covenant a 2-1 lead in the 52nd minute. The goals were the first of the season and career for Cingilli.

Week 3 (Sept. 12-17, 2016)

Lizzy Hightower - Soccer

Hightower, a freshman from Huntsville, Ala., played a key role in Covenant's 3-0 week with two goals and one assist. The freshman assisted on the game-winning goal by Abby Gienapp in a 1-0 win at Birmingham Southern on Tuesday. She then accounted for both goals in a 2-1 USA South win over Piedmont on Friday before helping the team record a 1-0 shutout of Salem on Saturday.

Week 4 (Sept. 19-24, 2016)

Schuyler Moore - Volleyball

Moore, a junior from Fort Myers, Fla., averaged 10.19 assists and 3.19 digs per set on the week to help Covenant to a 3-1 record. The junior had double-doubles in three of the four matches. Moore had 37 assists and eight digs in a 3-0 win over Methodist on Friday before posting 40 assists, 11 digs and eight kills in a 3-1 win over William Peace. On Saturday, Moore tallied 41 assists and 14 digs in a five-set loss to Averett and then totaled 45 assists, eight kills and 18 digs in a 3-1 win over Greensboro.

Week 5 (Sept. 25-Oct. 1, 2016)

Lilly Smith - Cross Country

Smith, a sophomore from Weaverville, N.C., won her first collegiate race as she claimed the individual title at the Maryville Invitational with a 6k time of 25:20. The first place finish, out of 38 college runners, propelled Covenant to a second place finish overall. The finish was Smith's second top-5 finish of the season.

Week 6 (Oct. 3-8, 2016)

Ginny Moore - Volleyball

Moore, a junior from Fort Myers, Fla., averaged 3.33 kills and 3.11 digs per set on the week to help Covenant to a 2-1 record. The junior recorded her 10th double-double of the year with 13 kills and 14 digs to go along with a .393 hitting percentage in a 3-0 win at Huntingdon on Thursday. She then had six kills and seven digs in a sweep of Salem on Saturday before tallying 11 kills and seven digs in a loss to No. 6 Emory.

Week 7 (Oct. 10-15, 2016)

Anna Porch - Soccer

Porch, a senior from Arden Hills, Minn., scored two goals and had three assists on the week to help Covenant to a 3-0 record. Porch had the assist on Rebekah Gravitt's eventual game-winning goal in the Lady Scots' 1-0 win over Maryville on Wednesday. The senior then had a goal and an assist in a 3-0 win over Wesleyan on Friday, before tallying another goal and assist in a 2-0 win over Agnes Scott on Saturday.

Week 8 (Oct. 17-22, 2016)

Hannah Stewart - Volleyball

Stewart, a sophomore from Signal Mountain, Tenn., averaged 4.67 digs per set on the week to help Covenant to a 2-1 record. The sophomore had 18 digs, three assists and one ace in a 3-0 win at Maryville last Tuesday. She then had 18 digs, three assists and an ace in a five-set loss at Piedmont on Saturday before totaling 20 digs in a 3-1 win over Huntingdon.

Week 9 (Oct. 24-29, 2016)

Hannah Samuels - Cross Country

Samuels, a sophomore from Dothan, Ala., paced Covenant at the USA South Cross Country Championships with a sixth-place finish. The sophomore came in at a time of 25:23 to lead Covenant to a fourth place finish in the event. Samuels' finish earned her a spot on the All-USA South first team.

Week 10 (Oct. 31-Nov. 5, 2016)

Ginny Moore - Volleyball

Moore, a junior from Fort Myers, Fla., had 23 kills and 16 digs in a USA South Tournament quarterfinal loss to LaGrange on Tuesday. The junior hit .254 in the match and recorded her 16th double-double of the year in the process. On Thursday, Moore was named to the All-USA South first team and All-West Division first team.

Week 11 (Nov. 7-12, 2016)

Lilly Smith - Cross Country

Smith, a sophomore from Weaverville, N.C., finished 75th at the NCAA South/Southeast Region meet on Saturday. The sophomore paced the women's team with her 6k time of 24:56 for her best region finish. Smith's time and place helped Covenant to 17th in the event, the best region finish for the program in the NCAA era.

Week 12 (Nov. 14-19, 2016)

Kaley Hallmark - Basketball

Hallmark, a sophomore from Oklahoma City, Okla., led the Scots with 14.0 points, 6.0 rebounds and 4.0 assists per game on the week as Covenant went 3-0. The sophomore scored 11 points with five rebounds and five assists in a 68-58 win over Sewanee on Tuesday. She then had 14 points, seven rebounds and five assists in a 48-42 victory at Centre on Friday. Hallmark ended the week with 17 points, six rebounds and two assists in a 100-64 win over Mary Baldwin.

Week 13 (Nov. 21-26, 2016)

Aleigha Williams - Basketball

Williams, a senior from Antioch, Tenn., had a game-high 17 points in Covenant's 65-52 victory at Berry last Tuesday. The senior hit two 3-pointers and also tallied three rebounds and four steals as the Scots remained unbeaten at 4-0 on the year.

Week 15 (Dec. 5-10, 2016)

Joanna Smith - Basketball

Smith, a sophomore from Chattanooga, Tenn., averaged 10.0 points, 9.5 rebounds, 3.0 assists and 3.0 steals per game last week. The sophomore tallied 10 points and nine rebounds to go along with three assists, two steals and two blocks in a 55-49 loss to Oglethorpe last Tuesday. She then had a double-double with 10 points and 10 boards with three assists, four steals and a block in a 70-60 overtime loss to Birmingham Southern on Saturday.

Week 16 (Dec. 12-17, 2016)

Emma Grimes - Basketball

Grimes, a junior from Melbourne, Fla., tied a career-high with 24 points in Covenant's 80-70 win over Rust on Saturday. The junior was 8-of-12 from the field with five 3-pointers and 3-for-4 at the free throw line in the win. Grimes also added two assists and two steals.

Week 17 (Dec. 26-31, 2016)

Aleigha Williams - Basketball

Williams, a senior from Antioch, Tenn., averaged 18 points, 3.5 rebounds and 2.5 steals on the week. The senior scored 16 points with two rebounds and two steals in a 66-58 loss at Millsaps on Friday. Williams then had 20 points on 9-of-17 shooting with five rebounds and three steals in a 79-69 loss at Belhaven on Saturday.

Week 18 (Jan. 2-7, 2017)

Rachel Price - Basketball

Price, a senior from Sale Creek, Tenn., averaged seven points and seven rebounds per game on the week as Covenant went 1-1. The senior was crucial in Covenant's comeback, 69-62 win over Sewanee last Tuesday with 10 points and six rebounds. In a 59-54 loss to Piedmont at home on Friday, Price totaled four points and eight rebounds with one assist.

Week 19 (Jan. 9-14, 2017)

Kaley Hallmark - Basketball

Hallmark, a sophomore from Oklahoma City, Okla., averaged 15.3 points and 2.3 rebounds on the week. The sophomore had 11 points and two assists in a loss at Maryville last Tuesday. Hallmark then had 16 points and two rebounds in a loss to LaGrange before tallying a career-high 19 points with four rebounds in a loss at Huntingdon on Saturday.

Week 20 (Jan. 16-21, 2017)

Emma Grimes - Basketball

Grimes, a junior from Melbourne, Fla., averaged 20.5 points and five assists per game to lead the Scots to a 2-0 week. The junior had 15 points, three assists and three rebounds in a 78-62 win at Wesleyan on Friday. Grimes then tallied a career-high 26 points, with eight 3-pointers, and seven assists in an 80-58 victory at Agnes Scott on Saturday.

Week 21 (Jan. 23-28, 2017)

Smith, a sophomore from Chattanooga, Tenn., averaged 17.5 points and 6.0 rebounds per game on the week. The sophomore scored 17 points with five rebounds and three steals in a 60-58 loss to Huntingdon on Friday. Smith then had a game-high 18 points with seven rebounds in a loss to LaGrange on Saturday.

Week 22 (Jan. 30-Feb. 4, 2017)

Joanna Smith - Basketball

Smith, a sophomore from Chattanooga, Tenn., averaged 13.6 points, 5.3 rebounds, 3.0 assists and 1.3 steals per game to help the Scots to a 2-1 week. She had 14 points, four rebounds and three assists in a loss to Maryville last Tuesday. Smith then had 17 points, 10 rebounds and five assists in a 75-51 win over Wesleyan on Friday. In a 57-44 win over Agnes Scott, Smith tallied 10 points, two rebounds and two steals.

Week 23 (Feb. 6-11, 2017)

Williams, a senior from Antioch, Tenn., averaged 14.0 points and 5.0 rebounds per game to help Covenant to a 2-1 week. The senior had 11 points, seven rebounds and two assists in an 82-78 win over Salem last Tuesday. She then tied a season-high with 20 points to go along with five rebounds in a loss at Piedmont on Friday. Williams capped the week scoring 11 points with three rebounds and three assists in an 86-83 win at Salem on Saturday.
