This week's male Covenant Athlete of the Week, for the period ending Feb. 17, 2018, is tennis senior Matthew Harvie.

Harvie, a senior from Grayson, Ga., went 2-0 in doubles and singles play to help Covenant to a 2-0 record on the week. The senior defeated Belhaven's Mauricio Gonzalez 6-4, 6-2 and then Hanover's Landon Carrico 6-0, 6-2 on Saturday. In doubles play, Harvie teamed with Chris Cox to collect an 8-3 win over Belhaven duo of Mauricio Gonzalez and Joan Soler before besting Hanover's Jonathan Helmers and Dakota Smith 8-2.

Week 1 (Aug. 28-Sept. 2, 2017)

Caleb Aikens - Cross Country

Aikens, a freshman from Crossville, Tenn., made his collegiate racing debut on Friday and placed seventh overall at the Georgia DIII Invitational at Berry College. The freshman posted an 8k time of 27:38.10 to pace the Scots to a third place finish overall. 

Week 2 (Sept. 4-9, 2017)

Jonathan Crossman - Soccer

Crossman, a senior from Lookout Mountain, Ga., helped the Scots to a 2-1 record during the week with a pair of shutouts. The senior made a total of 12 saves in 270 minutes at the net on the week. He had three saves in a 1-0 win over Sewanee on Wednesday, and then had two saves in a 1-0 victory at Belhaven on Friday. In Saturday's 1-0 loss to Millsaps, Crossman had seven saves.

Week 3 (Sept. 11-16, 2017)

Caleb Aikens - Cross Country

Aikens, a freshman from Crossville, Tenn., again paced the Scots as he finished 23rd and led the team to a fourth place finish at the Falcon Classic on Saturday. The freshman posted an 8k time of 28:01.28, which was good for 23rd out of 145 non-Division I runners. Aikens' individual finish helped Covenant to fourth out of 15 teams, and the top Division III finisher in the meet.

Week 4 (Sept. 18-23, 2017)

Carl Simakoff - Soccer

Simakoff, a junior from St. Louis, Mo., scored once on the week but it was a big one as his goal helped Covenant to a 2-2 tie at Averett on Saturday. The junior scored in the 88th minute of play, assisted by Josh Brower, to draw the Scots even at 2-2 after they trailed by two goals earlier in the match. The goal was the 10th of Simakoff's collegiate career, and the first in 2017.

Week 5 (Sept. 25-30, 2017)

Caleb Aikens - Cross Country

Aikens, a freshman from Crossville, Tenn., continued his torrid start to the season with a second place finish at the Maryville Invitational that led the Scots to a team title. The freshman placed second, out of 61 collegiate runners, with an 8k time of 28:15.9. Aikens has paced Covenant in all three meets this season.

Week 6 (Oct. 2-7, 2017)

Josh Brower - Soccer

Brower, a sophomore from Birmingham, Ala., assisted the Scots to a 2-0 week with four assists. The sophomore had two assists in Covenant's 3-0 victory at LaGrange last Wednesday, before tallying two more assists in the Scots' 3-1 win over Pensacola Christian on Saturday. Brower leads the team with six assists on the year.

Week 7 (Oct. 9-14, 2017)

Caleb Aikens - Cross County

Aikens, a freshman from Crossville, Tenn., continues to put together a tremendous rookie campaign as he finished 19th and led Covenant to a third place finish at the Berry Invitational. The freshman set a personal best in the 8k race at 27:19.3 and was 19th among all runners in the event. It was the second straight week that Aikens had produced a new personal record.

Week 8 (Oct. 16-21, 2017)

Josh Brower - Soccer

Brower, a sophomore from Birmingham, Ala., scored twice in Covenant's 2-1, double-overtime victory at William Peace on Saturday. The sophomore tied the score with a goal in the second half and then gave the Scots the victory with his second goal of the match in the 104th minute. Brower has tallied four goals on the year and leads the team with seven assists.

Week 9 (Oct. 23-28, 2017)

Carl Simakoff - Soccer

Simakoff, a junior from St. Louis, Mo., scored three goals and had an assist to help Covenant to two victories last week. In a 9-0 rout of Berea, Simakoff scored two goals in the first half and also added an assist in the win. The junior then scored the eventual game-winner in the Scots' 3-0 USA South Tournament quarterfinal victory at Piedmont on Saturday.

Week 10 (Oct. 30-Nov. 4, 2017)

Nathan Hawkins - Golf

Hawkins, a sophomore from Lexington, N.C., finished fifth overall at the Eagle Invitational last week. The sophomore led the Scots to a second place finish in the event after carding a two-day score of 157 (79-78). Hawkins' second round score of 78 was tied for second-lowest among all golfers in the tournament.

Week 11 (Nov. 6-11, 2017)

Caleb Aikens - Cross Country

Aikens, a freshman from Crossville, Tenn., capped an outstanding freshman year with a 45th place finish at the NCAA Division III South/Southeast Regional meet on Saturday. The freshman set a personal record, and the second-fastest 8k time in program history, at 25:56.6. His finish led Covenant to 12th place, setting a program record for highest finish at an NCAA regional.

Week 12 (Nov. 13-18, 2017)

Berto Dryden - Basketball

Dryden, a senior from Brooklyn, N.Y., scored 21 points in Covenant's overtime loss at Oglethorpe last Wednesday. The senior shot 9-of-14 from the field, with two 3-pointers, to go along with five rebounds, four assists, and four steals in the narrow defeat.

Week 13 (Nov. 20-25, 2017)

Patjo Twagirayezu - Basketball

Twagirayezu, a senior from Kigali, Rwanda, scored a career-high 32 points in the Scots' 86-82 victory over Birmingham Southern last week. The senior went 13-of-26 from the field with four 3-pointers, while also collecting five rebounds, one assist and one steal in the victory. It marked the second time in two years that Twagirayezu set a career-high in points against Birmingham Southern.

Week 14 (Nov. 27-Dec. 2, 2017)

Patjo Twagirayezu - Basketball

Twagirayezu, a senior from Kigali, Rwanda, led Covenant to a 2-0 week by averaging 26.0 points, while shooting 53.8 percent from the field and 100 percent from 3-point land, with 7.5 rebounds. The senior scored 22 points, on 6-of-13 shooting with two 3-pointers, to go with nine rebounds in an 89-85 win over LaGrange. He then scored 30 points, on 8-of-13 shooting with five 3-pointers, with six rebounds and two assists and two steals in a 93-64 win over Berea.

Week 15 (Dec. 4-9, 2017)

Berto Dryden - Basketball

Dryden, a senior from Brooklyn, N.Y., averaged 22.5 points, 4.5 rebounds, 1.5 assists and 2.0 steals per game on the week. In a 92-86 loss to Sewanee, Dryden dropped a career-high 30 points on 10-of-13 shooting with five 3-pointers, to go along with three rebounds, one assist, and one steal. The following night, the senior had 15 points, six rebounds, two assists, and three steals in an 80-73 loss at Emory.

Week 16 (Dec. 11-22, 2017)

Berto Dryden - Basketball

Over a three-game stretch from Dec. 16-19, Dryden, a senior from Brooklyn, N.Y., averaged 20.3 points, 5.3 rebounds and 4.3 assists per game as Covenant went 3-0. In win at Brevard on Dec. 16, Dryden had 17 points and six rebounds. He then had 18 points, five rebounds and six assists in a 100-85 win over Austin on Dec. 18. Dryden capped the stretch with 26 points, five rebounds, seven assists and two steals in a 120-110 win at Rhodes on Dec. 19. During the three games, Dryden shot 56.3 percent from the field, 50 percent from 3-point land, and 94.4 percent at the free throw line.

Week 17 (Dec. 25, 2017-Jan. 6, 2018)

Bailey Spragg - Basketball

Spragg, a junior from Windermere, Fla., averaged 16.0 points, 5.5 rebounds, 4.0 assists, and 3.5 steals per game on the week as Covenant went 1-1. He also shot 63.2 percent from the field and 71.4 percent from 3-point land. The junior was held to four points with five rebounds, two assists and a steal in a loss at Maryville on Wednesday. Spragg then had a career-high 28 points, on 10-of-11 shooting, with six rebounds, six steals, six assists, and a block in an 86-77 win over Huntingdon on Saturday.

Week 18 (Jan. 8-13, 2018)

Caleb Haynes - Basketball

Haynes, a sophomore from Section Ala., averaged 20.0 points, while shooting 81.8 percent from the floor, with four rebounds and a block per game. The sophomore had 24 points, shooting 11-of-13, with three rebounds, a steal and an assist in a 103-98 overtime loss at Averett on Friday. Haynes then had 16 points, on 7-of-9 shooting, with five rebounds and two blocks in a 94-85 loss at N.C. Wesleyan on Saturday.

Week 19 (Jan. 15-20, 2018)

Caleb Haynes - Basketball

Haynes, a sophomore from Section, Ala., helped Covenant to a 1-1 week by averaging 19.5 points, while shooting 68 percent from the field, with eight rebounds and 1.5 assists per game. The sophomore had 19 points, nine rebounds and three assists in an 89-82 overtime loss to Piedmont on Thursday. Haynes then had 20 points, on a perfect 9-of-9 from the field, with seven rebounds and a block in a 105-101 win over Pfeiffer on Saturday.

Week 20 (Jan. 22-27, 2018)

Bailey Spragg - Basketball

Spragg, a junior from Windermere, Fla., averaged 12.5 points, 5.0 rebounds, 6.5 assists, and 1.5 steals per game on the week. The junior tallied 14 points, four rebounds, three assists and three steals in a loss to LaGrange on Friday. Spragg then totaled 11 points, 10 assists, and six rebounds in a 90-75 victory at Huntingdon on Saturday. Spragg's 10 assists on Saturday marked the second time this year he has tallied double-digit assists.

Week 21 (Jan. 29-Feb. 3, 2018)

Caleb Haynes - Basketball

Haynes, a sophomore from Section, Ala., had another outstanding week as he averaged 18.3 points, while shooting 75.8 percent from the field, and 8.3 rebounds per game to help Covenant to a 3-0 record. The sophomore had a double-double of 17 points and 13 rebounds with a steal and an assist in an 80-73 win over Maryville on Wednesday. He then had 26 points, eight rebounds and a block in a 92-88 road win at Methodist on Friday. Haynes capped the week with 12 points, four rebounds and an assist in an 86-63 win at William Peace.

Week 22 (Feb. 5-10, 2018)

Caleb Haynes - Basketball

Haynes, a sophomore from Section, Ala., averaged 17.0 points and 7.7 rebounds to help the Scots to another 3-0 week. The sophomore had 24 points, including the go-ahead tip-in with 3.1 seconds left, in a 68-66 win at Berea last Wednesday. Haynes then had a double-double of 21 points and 11 rebounds in a 92-80 win over Greensboro on Friday before tallying six points and four boards in a 76-64 win over Ferrum on Saturday.
