Players of the Week
This week's Covenant players of the week, for the period ending April 20, are women's tennis senior Kelsey Whitted and baseball freshman pitcher Garrett Kriston. This week is the final week for these honors.
Whitted, a senior from Loganville, Ga., helped Covenant secure a victory in its final match of the season as the Lady Scots took a 5-4 win over GSAC foe Spelman. The senior teamed up with Sarah Carter at No.1 doubles to defeat Spelman 8-3. In singles play, Whitted dropped the first set but rallied back to win the final two games and score a huge 5-7, 6-2, 6-4 victory. Additionally, Whitted won her two matches with an injured leg that kept her out of the Wesleyan match just one day prior to the Spelman match.
Kriston was spectacular in his one start this week. The freshman from Trinity, Fla., threw a nine inning complete-game four-hitter as the Scots claimed a 3-1 victory over LaGrange in game one of a doubleheader on Saturday. Kriston allowed one unearned run while walking one and striking out eight on only 79 pitches. The right-hander did not allow a hit after the third inning as he notched his fourth win of the season.
