Covenant Announces Hiring of John Hirte as Head Tennis Coach

LOOKOUT MOUNTAIN -- The Covenant College Department of Athletics is pleased to announce the hiring of John Hirte as Head Tennis Coach. Hirte, who will graduate from Covenant later this week, played four years of varsity tennis and was named Great South Athletic Conference Men's Tennis Player of the Year this season as he went undefeated in conference singles matches. Hirte will be the fifth head coach in the program's history.
"I am extremely excited about the opportunity to begin my coaching career at Covenant, a place where I have had a wonderful four years as a student, and as an athlete," Hirte said.
Hirte Named GSAC Men's Tennis Player of the Year

DECATUR, Ga. -- The Great South Athletic Conference announced its All-Conference teams for men's and women's tennis on Thursday. Covenant senior John Hirte was named men's Player of the Year, while Gretchen Rowe earned a spot on the women's All-Freshman team.
Hirte, a senior from Maple Grove, Minn., had an outstanding year for the Scots. Hirte posted a perfect 7-0 singles record in GSAC matches playing in the No. 1 position.
Tennis Teams Cruise to Victories to End Season
Posted April 18, 2012LAGRANGE, Ga. -- The Covenant tennis teams ended the 2012 season on a positive note on Tuesday afternoon as both teams recorded wins over GSAC opponent LaGrange College. The men were victorious by a score of 7-2, while the women cruised to an 8-1 win.
The Scots end the season with a 4-8 overall record and 4-4 in conference matches. The Lady Scots finish 6-7 overall and 5-3 in GSAC play.
Scots Tennis Defeated by Piedmont

DEMOREST, Ga. -- Despite John Hirte earning a singles victory and assisting in a doubles win, the Covenant Scots tennis team fell to Great South Athletic Conference member Piedmont College 7-2 on Thursday afternoon.
Covenant falls to 3-8 overall and 3-4 in conference play. Piedmont improves to 10-5 on the season and remain perfect in conference play at 7-0.
Men's Tennis Falls at Berry
Posted April 11, 2012ROME, Ga. -- The Covenant men's tennis team was defeated on the road by Berry College on Wednesday afternoon by a score of 7-2. With the loss, the Scots drop to 3-7 overall, while Berry improves to 4-8.
Covenant's only two wins of the match came through John Hirte. Hirte teamed with Jonathan Herberich to win their doubles match over Berry's Johnathan Surls and Logan Yerbey 8-2. Hirte then defeated Surls in three sets in singles competition 7-5, 4-6, 10-8.
Hirte Wins GSAC Weekly Award

LOOKOUT MOUNTAIN -- The Great South Athletic Conference on Wednesday announced the weekly award winners for tennis and Covenant's John Hirte was recognized as the singles player of the week. This is the second time Hirte has been honored by the GSAC, but the first time for his singles play.
A senior from Maple Grove, Minn., Hirte won both of his singles matches and both doubles matches against conference opponents last week.
Covenant Netters Fall to Piedmont
Posted April 5, 2012CHATTANOOGA -- The Covenant tennis teams each suffered their second loss in as many days on Wednesday afternoon in Chattanooga. The Scots were defeated by GSAC rival Piedmont 7-2, while the Lady Scots were beaten 5-4 by Piedmont.
A day earlier, both Covenant teams were defeated by tough Sewanee teams. The men fall to 3-6 overall and 3-3 in conference matches, while the women are now 3-5 on the season and 3-2 in GSAC play.
Hirte and Wagoner Named Covenant Players of the Week
Posted April 3, 2012LOOKOUT MOUNTAIN -- Men's tennis player John Hirte and softball first baseman Courtney Wagoner have been named Covenant Players of the Week for the week of March 26-31. It is the second time this season that Hirte has been awarded this honor, while Wagoner is a first-time winner.
