The fifth week of Covenant College's fall 2010 athletics season is now complete, and this week's top honors go to two individuals who helped propel their teams to historic wins on Saturday. Representing the women is cross country runner Tera Woods, and for the men, soccer goalkeeper John Eger.
John Eger becomes this year's first back-to-back recipient of the award, and claims week 5 honors after making several incredible saves to help lead Covenant to victory over Lee University on Saturday. The Covenant win, which came against a perennially strong Lee team, was the school's first against the Flames in recent memory, and Eger's astonishing 14 saves proved to be crucial in the 2-1 overtime victory.
Cross Country runner Tera Woods takes women's player of the week honors for her performance at the Maryville Invitational. The junior placed 1st in the competition, beating all opposing contestants by almost a minute. Furthermore, her performance played a large part in Covenant's overall 1st place finish, and, in the absence of injured senior Hannah Matthews, Woods stepped up and helped inspire her teammates to five top twenty placements at the meet.
