From Suriname to Lookout Mountain, Welcome Junghoon Shin

Lookout Mountain, GA- Junghoon Shin, a 5'8" 145 lb. guard from Paramaribo, Suriname has selected Covenant College to pursue his degree and play intercollegiate basketball.  Suriname is a small Republic on the Northeast coast of South America.  Paramaribo is the capital city and has a population of around 250,000 (roughly half the size of the country).  It is located about 5 miles from the Atlantic Ocean.  Dutch is the official language, although English is taught beginning in seventh grade and a native creole (Sranan Tongo) is also spoken by almost everyone.

Jung attended the International Academy of Suriname, where he averaged 9 points and 4 assists per game.  He also played on the Yellowbirds club team that had an undefeated season (20-0).  He was an honor roll student at the International Academy, and helped coach the girl's basketball team at his school as well.  Jung's father's name is Sukjoo Shin and his mother is Kyunghee Cha.

"I am excited that Jung has chosen Covenant College," said head coach Kyle Taylor. "I think that Covenant will be a great place for him to study and play hoops.  I know that playing on an athletic team will help ease the transition of being so far away from home.  We have a wonderful group of players that will provide instant friendships and a second family for him while he studies in the U.S."
