6'9" Center to Play for Scots

Joey Danek

Lookout Mountain, GA- Joey Danek, a 6'9" 200 lb center from Blairsville, GA has committed to attend Covenant College in the fall of 2009.  Danek averaged a double-double this past season for the Mountain Area Christian Academy (MACA) Lions, scoring 22 points and pulling down 12.9 rebounds per contest.  Danek, a 3x team MVP, has helped the Lions to three straight semifinal appearances in the state tournament, and was honored as a member of the All-State Tournament AA Team this past season for his efforts.

"Joey brings some much needed size to our basketball team," said Covenant College Coach Kyle Taylor.  "I expect him to step in immediately and help us fill a void in the post.  Post players are always the toughest to find, and even tougher to get to commit, but Joey just kind of fell in my lap.  Joey comes from a great family, that has a strong background and ties to the PCA.  As a family they decided that Covenant was the perfect fit for Joey, and I am grateful to Mr. and Mrs. Danek for having faith in Covenant, because Joey essentially signed before I was even offered the job."

Coach Taylor went on to say, "Joey has great footwork and good hands for a 6'9" post player.  He has nice touch to about 10 feet and can get up and down the floor well.  He will need to get stronger over the course of his four years at Covenant, but I am planning on utilizing him immediately." Joey is the son of Dean and Julie Danek, and has three younger siblings: Peter (15), Thomas (12), and Anna (10).  Joey plans on majoring in the Engineering Dual Degree program at Covenant.
