Engbers Wins Weekly GSAC Award
LOOKOUT MOUNTAIN -- Freshman forward Bryant Engbers was named Great South Athletic Conference men's basketball player of the week on Wednesday.
This marks the second time this season that a Covenant Scot has been honored with this award. Callum Sears was recognized as the first 2011-12 GSAC men's basketball player of the week in November.
Engbers set a career-high with 26 points on 10-of-12 shooting while grabbing seven rebounds in Covenant's 91-78 win over Piedmont last Wednesday. The freshman followed that performance with nine points and five rebounds in a 90-81 loss to Rust College. On the week, Engbers shot 14-of-25 from the field and hit 5-of-5 free throws in 51 minutes of play. He totaled 12 rebounds, three assists, one steal, and led the team in scoring with 35 points.
Covenant returns to action on Wednesday night with a home game against Maryville College at 8 p.m. Maryville won the previous meeting of the two teams 89-64 earlier this year.
