Kyle Mendenhall Added to Men’s Basketball Coaching Staff


Kyle MendenhallLOOKOUT MOUNTAIN -- The Covenant College athletic department and men’s basketball program have announced the addition of Kyle Mendenhall to next year’s staff.  Mendenhall comes to Covenant from a variety of cities and schools, but most recently from Barbourville, Kentucky, where he was an assistant at Union College last season.  Mendenhall will take over the majority of the recruiting effort

Covenant Basketball Lands Second Crossville Graduate


LOOKOUT MOUNTAIN -- Tyler Gaylor, a 5’11 Guard from Crossville High School, has committed to join the Covenant basketball family.  

After a decorated and highly successful career at Crossville High School, Tyler Gaylor will look to have an immediate impact with the Scots next season.  A player capable of contributing in multiple areas, Tyler averaged 9.8 points, 6.7 rebounds, 5.5 assists, and 2.6 steals per game as a senior.  His assist and steal totals were tops on the team, and he also led the team in charges taken.  

Dallas Native to Join Scots


Alexander WeirLOOKOUT MOUNTAIN -- Alexander Weir, a 6'1 Point Guard from Dallas, TX, has committed to Covenant College for the 2010-2011 season.

Alexander, who graduated from the Cambridge School in Dallas, averaged 20 points per game during his senior season.  A five sport athlete at Cambridge, Alexander participated in Basketball, Cross-Country, Track, Soccer, and Crew, enjoying great success as a prep athlete.  

Weir's accomplishments include state championships in Track and Cross-Country, All-District nods in Basketball as a Jr. and Sr., 4 years as an All-State selection in Cross-Country, and a 2nd team All-District selection in Soccer as a Sr.

Scots Assistant Named Head Coach at Crown College


Luke HerbertLOOKOUT  MOUNTAIN -- Luke Herbert, who joined the Covenant College family last August as Assistant Men's Basketball Coach, has been named the Head Men's Basketball Coach at Crown College, in St. Bonifacius, MN.

"It's a bittersweet time for us at Covenant," remarked Coach Kyle Taylor.  "I am really excited for Luke as he has the opportunity to get home and be a head college coach.  On the other hand, I'm losing a very good friend and a great coach.  Luke excelled in recruiting and building quality relationships with our players. He will be sorely missed.  We wish him the best, and know that God has great things in store for both he and Lindsey at Crown."

Worth the Wait: Kacey Chambers Joins Scots


Kacey ChambersLOOKOUT MOUNTAIN -- Almost two years in the making Kacey Chambers, a standout at The First Academy in Orlando, FL, has committed to play basketball at Covenant College.

A four year Varsity contributor at TFA, Kacey finished his high school career with over 1200 points scored.  During his senior campaign Kacey averaged 15.8 points, 4.8 rebounds, and 2.3 assists per game on his way to being named District Player of the Year.  His performance also garnered Kacey TFA Royal Athlete of the Year honors, as well as team MVP honors.  Kacey was also named the team MVP his junior year and was the team's best defensive player his sophomore year.

Lakeview Academy Guard Commits to Covenant


Daniel OlveraLOOKOUT MOUNTAIN -- Daniel Olvera, a 6'2 guard from Clayton, GA will join the Covenant College Scots next season.

Olvera averaged 15 points, 5 rebounds, and 5 steals a game on his way to being named MVP at Lakeview Academy during his senior season.  Olvera was also named Hall County Sports Player of the Game, and was a 1st Team All-Region member.

Hume-Fogg Forward to Join Covenant Basketball Family


Daniel GarrettLOOKOUT MOUNTAIN -- Daniel Garrett, a native of Antioch, TN, has committed to becoming a member of the Covenant Scots Men's Basketball team for the 2010-11 school year.

A three year fixture on the Hume-Fogg Academic Magnet High School basketball team, Daniel was known as a "Stat Stuffer," making his mark on all areas of the game.  During his senior season, Daniel used his combination of size, length, and athleticism to lead the team in assists (3.7 per game), steals (2.5 per game), Free Throws made, and Free Throw percentage (78%).  Daniel scored 8.6 points per game and collected 5.5 rebounds per game as well.

Kole Richards to Play for Scots


Kole RichardsLOOKOUT MOUNTAIN -- A case of mistaken identity led Kole Richards to Covenant College.  He liked it so much, he decided to come back.

After mistaking a phone conversation with another assistant coach to be one with a member of the Covenant College staff, Kole came to Covenant for a visit that was a bit unexpected.  The day turned out to be fruitful for both Covenant and Mr. Richards, as a few months later Kole has decided to attend Covenant and will play basketball for the Scots.
