Dr. Chris Robinson, assistant professor of sociology, has been named the new representative.
"I am deeply grateful for Rodney's astounding 24 years of service as the faculty athletics representative," Sceggel said. "His care and concern for the success of student athletes on the court, in the classroom, and in their faith was evident during his steadfast tenure in this role. His service within athletics will be missed, but our campus will still continue to benefit from his great work as the college registrar."
Miller completed his 30th year at Covenant in 2016-17 where he serves as the college's Dean of Records and Registrar. Miller will continue his work in those roles. He began serving as the faculty athletics representative in 1993 and was a conference registrar and conference eligibility committee member during Covenant's years in the NAIA. In addition, he played a vital role in Covenant's transition from the NAIA to NCAA Division III. Miller has also served as the head cross country coach during his time at Covenant.
"As FAR for the last 24 years, I enjoyed working with student-athletes to encourage them in both their academic and athletic programs as they represent Covenant," Miller said. "I also appreciate the commitment of the Covenant leadership and the athletic administration to hire coaches who understand the student experience requires the balance of academic, spiritual and athletic discipline. All three disciplines are required to deliver the best student-athlete experience at Covenant."
Dr. Robinson has been a full-time faculty member since 2015, but has taught at the college since 2011. For the last two years, Dr. Robinson has served on the athletic committee at Covenant. He earned his Ph.D. from the University of South Carolina and an M.Div. from Union Theological Seminary. Dr. Robinson earned his bachelor's degree from Anderson (Ind.) University, where he also competed on the men's tennis team.
In addition to teaching, Dr. Robinson heads up Project 52, a non-profit dedicated to completing 52 local service projects a year.
